Luxury lodging in London ? Swank surroundings in Surabaya ? Mandarin Oriental International owns or operates 18 high-end hotels in Asia , Europe , and North America . The company has equity stakes in about 80% of its properties, which include flagship and founding property the Mandarin Oriental (Hong Kong), as well as the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park (London), Hotel Majapahit (Surabaya), and the Kahala Mandarin Oriental (Hawaii). It hopes to establish the Mandarin name as a global brand through organic growth and acquisitions; the company currently has hotels under development in New York City , Tokyo , and Washington , DC . Hong Kong-based trading conglomerate Jardine Matheson owns about 66% of Mandarin Oriental International.
