You don't need to win a drawing to stay in these hotels. Raffles Holdings owns 38 hotels and resorts (including four under development) worldwide. It offers luxury accommodations through Raffles International hotels and business class services through Merchant Court hotels. Raffles has doubled its global presence with the purchase of the 23-hotel Swissôtel chain. In addition, Raffles manages four retail and hospitality locations called Raffles City (45%-owned). The chain takes its moniker from flagship Raffles Hotel in Singapore (opened in 1887), which was named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the British governor who founded Singapore . Real estate firm CapitaLand owns about 60% of the company.
